Job Title and Description Job Title: Facilitator/Instructor
Job Description: The role of the faculty
member at the University of Phoenix is to present information, carry out activities, and
facilitate classroom discussion as outlined in the teaching module provided for the class
contracted to teach. Faculty receive directives from and bring all issues to the Associate
Director of Academic Affairs and/or the Director of Academic Affairs.

Specific DutiesMeet class at specified time and date and facilitate
instruction for entire scheduled class period.
Be fully prepared for each class and familiar with both
module and text material.
Create an informal, yet professional learning environment
where students and faculty have a free exchange of ideas.
Provide opportunities for faculty and students to learn
about the professional background expertise of all students in the learning group.
Create a learning environment where students feel valued
for the professional expertise they bring to the classroom.
Interact with the class as a facilitator by providing
information to the students and drawing information from students providing an exchange of
relevant ideas.
Organize and make available the widest possible resources
for learning and make maximum use of the students themselves as learning resources.
Follow the module for the course using the format and
activities as guidelines for conducting class.

Time Commitment Classes meet
weekly for four hours, one night per week and attendance is mandatory. Independent study,
supervised field work and the students' project/thesis will require a considerable time
commitment outside the formal classroom setting.

Desired Faculty Behaviors After completion of the Faculty Certification Workshop, faculty
are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
- Applies theory to practical situations.
- Prepares a syllabus for each class that is clear and
easily understood.
- Debriefs cases so students better understand the learning
experience.
- Gives assignments that challenge the student leading to
mastery of the material.
- Gives feedback on written and verbal work that helps
students improve.
- Listens to students' questions for understanding.
- Presents information in a lively, well-organized manner.
- Positively reinforces students for participating in class.
- Gives students additional help when asked.
- Brings current information to class for discussion.
- Frequently refers to materials in text and module during
class.
- Easily and openly admits when he/she does not know the
answer.
- Sets forth work/grading requirements early and helps
students understand them.
- Is friendly and social to students.
- Begins and ends class on time.
- Can explain University of Phoenix policies and procedures
to students.
